BackgroundLee’s work focuses on the connections between communities and frequently emphasizes the importance of the tribal hunt and the community sharing of gathered foods. In some she shows the subject of the painting in the environment it has chosen to live in. She is a Kukuangli woman from North Queensland who now lives in Cessnock, New South Wales.
In this painting, the Jama travels through the countryside in search of food. Small blue circles represent waterholes; the circles in each corner represent tribes; lines between waterholes represent paths that Australian Aboriginal people walked; while the background represents rivers, vegetation and land. |
